Playground by Jackie Duden

Let’s pretend
I’m done chasing you.
Tag, you’re it,
but I don’t need to keep running.

Let’s pretend
we’re not counting down.
You have found me,
and I don’t need to find you.

Let’s pretend
the teeter-totter is broken.
Only thing we can do
is share
solid ground.

Let’s pretend
our bubble won’t burst
once our breath
kisses it.
That it’s immune.

Let’s pretend
the playground is ours,
and you’re not spinning me
into confusion
on the merry-go-round.
